Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, Winnersh, UK, is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer specialising in Modelling & Simulation for unmanned systems. You will lead modelling, simulation and control across the lifecycle from concept through to flight trials.

You will develop high-fidelity 6-DOF models, apply Model-Based Systems Engineering, implement flight-critical control laws, and mentor engineers in a collaborative, hybrid-work environment.

Qualifications

• Deep technical experience in modelling, simulation, flight controls or unmanned systems engineering.
• Experience in aerospace/defence robotics autonomy or unmanned systems environments.
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink development and code generation for embedded deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead modelling, simulation and control activities for complex unmanned systems across the lifecycle.
• Design high-fidelity 6-DOF digital models of unmanned systems.
• Use Model-Based Systems Engineering to inform design decisions.
• Develop and deploy flight-critical control laws and autonomy functions.
• Create trajectory guidance, mission tasking and GNSS-denied navigation algorithms.
• Support SIL/HIL testing, Iron Bird development, and field trials.
• Mentor junior engineers and review system architectures.
