Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

Job overview

The Clinical Physics Department provides a wide range of physics and engineering services to the Trust. The Radiation Safety Team provides diagnostic radiology physics services and radiation safety advice and support to all users of ionising radiation in the Trust. There is a wide range of modern imaging equipment in the Trust, including state-of-the-art angio labs, mammography systems and CT scanners (two photon counting CT scanners). There are ample opportunities for exciting projects working in collaboration with clinical colleagues. We also provide services to other external clients.

Barts Health Radiation Safety is a friendly and supportive team, wanting to help staff to use their talents and develop to their full potential. We are looking for a motivated physicist with experience to act as the Radiation Safety Site lead at Newham University Hospital, and to also lead the patient dosimetry programme. You need experience as an MPE in Diagnostic Radiology and in radiation protection in healthcare to help lead the Radiation Safety services.

You must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist and have MPE certification. An RPA certificate of competence or the ability to submit an application within 6 months is also required.

Main duties of the job

The aim of this post is to provide closer MPE / RPA working with the clinical departments and being more integrated into the clinical teams. You will also work with the site leadership teams on the site radiation protection programme.

Applicants with less experience can be considered for appointment at band 8A initially (as a development post) and will be moved to the band 8b position once the individual meets the required competencies.

The Radiation Safety Section is based at the Royal London Hospital. You will be expected to spend time at your lead site and to work on all Trust and client sites
