National Energy System Operator Limited is seeking Power System Engineers to shape future network plans and policy in a hybrid UK role. You will develop network designs, run studies, and translate results into actionable recommendations for GB energy systems.

The role requires collaboration with transmission and distribution owners, offshore developers, and NESO teams to deliver resilient, low-carbon network solutions on time. A strong background in planning and analysis is essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GB transmission/distribution planning processes or NOA exposure is a plus.
• Experience applying power system studies to inform planning and operability.
• Ability to interpret standards and translate outputs into actionable guidance.
• Strong written skills for technical reporting and policy development.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Excellent collaboration with internal/external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and analyse network plans to assess performance and constraints.
• Lead policy, methodologies and guidance for network planning decisions.
• Undertake power system studies and translate outputs into insights.
• Coordinate with TOs, DNOs, developers and NESO colleagues.
• Provide technical assurance and compliance reviews against standards.
• Represent NESO internally and externally in meetings and reports.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
• Drive close collaboration to deliver high‑quality network solutions.
