Job summary

RED ENGINEERING DESIGN LIMITED is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer for London, Bicester, or Newcastle. The role focuses on design and optimization of power systems within data centre facilities, including simulations, protections, and power quality studies.

The successful candidate will collaborate with design teams, support transient stability assessments, and ensure reliability and efficiency of power distributions across high-energy environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Power Engineering.
• Proven experience in power systems engineering, preferably in the data centre industry.
• Proficiency in simulation software, particularly ETAP (preferred), DigSilent or SKM.
• Experience with Load Flow, Short Circuit Analysis, Protection Coordination, Arc Flash, Harmonic Studies, and Underground Cable Sizing.
• Experience in LV and MV systems, ideally HV up to 132kV.
• Strong knowledge of power systems control and SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

• Run load-flow analyses to ensure optimal power distribution in data centre facilities.
• Perform short-circuit analyses and assess power system integrity under fault conditions.
• Coordinate protection schemes to enhance reliability and safety of the network.
• Execute arc flash studies and harmonic studies to improve power quality and risk control.
• Document and report simulation results with clear recommendations and design considerations.
• Collaborate with design teams to understand project requirements and deliverables.
