Job summary

RED Engineering seeks a Principal Power Systems Engineer to design and optimize power systems for data centre projects. Roles include running simulations, supporting design teams, and ensuring reliability of power distribution.

Offices in London, Bicester or Newcastle with hybrid working available. The candidate should have a power engineering degree and hands-on experience with ETAP (preferred) or DigSilent/SKM, plus LV/MV up to 132 kV and strong SCADA knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Power Engineering.
  • Proven experience in power systems engineering, preferably within the data centre industry.
  • Proficiency in simulation software, particularly ETAP (preferred), DigSilent, or SKM.
  • Experience with Load Flow, Short Circuit Analysis, Protection Coordination, Arc Flash, Harmonic Studies, and Underground Cable Sizing.
  • Experience in performing Transient Stability Studies is desirable.
  • Experience in performing Earthing Studies is desirable.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the models of main electrical machines, including but not limited to generators, transformers, motors and UPS.
  • Experience in both LV and MV systems, ideally HV up to 132 kV.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems control and SCADA systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred.
  • Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy.

Responsibilities

  • Run computer simulations to analyze power distribution within data centre facilities.
  • Support design teams with power system studies and recommendations.
  • Validate input data and prepare comprehensive reports detailing simulation results, recommendations, and design considerations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to power system simulations and design support activities.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
