RED ENGINEERING DESIGN LIMITED is seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our expanding team based in London, Bicester or Newcastle. You will lead power systems design for data centres, conducting complex simulations and guiding project teams.

The role requires ETAP expertise (DigSilent or SKM considered), LV/MV experience up to 132kV, and a strong consultancy background. We offer hybrid working, a comprehensive benefits package and mentoring from senior leaders.

Qualifications

• Experience in data centre power systems design and analysis.
• ETAP proficiency preferred with knowledge of DigSilent or SKM welcomed.
• Experience with Load Flow, Short Circuit Analysis and Protection Coordination.
• Experience in Arc Flash and Transient Stability studies is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Run computer simulations to design power distribution for data centres.
• Support design teams and ensure reliability and efficiency of power systems.
• Coordinate protection schemes and perform arc flash studies.
• Prepare comprehensive reports detailing results and recommendations.
• Stay current with industry trends and contribute to methodology improvements.

We now seek a Principal Power Systems Engineer to be based out of our London,Bicester or Newcastle office.

Role Responsibilities

As a Principal Power Engineer at RED Engineering, you will play a crucial role in the design and optimization of power systems within the data centreindustry. Your primary responsibilities will include running computer simulations,supportingdesign teams,andensuringthereliabilityandefficiencyofpowerdistributionsystems.Weare particularly interested in candidates withexpertisein ETAP, although experience withDigSilentor SKM will also be considered.

KeyResponsibilities:

SimulationExpertise:

Conductloadflowanalysistoensureoptimalpowerdistributionwithindatacentrefacilities.

Performshortcircuitanalysistoassesstheintegrityofthepowersystem under fault conditions.

Coordinateprotectionsystemstoenhancethereliabilityandsafetyofthe power distribution network.

Executearcflashstudiestomitigaterisksandensurecompliancewithsafetystandards.

Collaboratecloselywiththedesignteamstounderstandprojectrequirements

ExperienceinTransientStabilitystudieswouldbeanadvantage,contributing to the resilience of the power systems under dynamic conditions.

DocumentationandReporting:

Preparecomprehensivereportsdetailingsimulationresults, recommendations, and design considerations.

Maintainaccurateandup-to-datedocumentationrelatedtopowersystem simulations and design support activities.

Stayabreastofindustrytrends,bestpractices,andemergingtechnologies.

Contributetothecontinuousimprovementofsimulationmethodologiesand tools within the power systems team.

Review:

• Support Power Systems Engineers in their deliverables.

Review models and reports forPower Systemsteam.

Role Requirements

Provenexperienceinpowersystemsengineering,preferablywithinthedatacentreindustry

Proficiencyinsimulationsoftware,particularlyETAP(preferred),DigSilent,orSKM.

ExperiencewithLoadFlow,ShortCircuitAnalysis,ProtectionCoordination, Arc Flash, Harmonic Studies, and Underground Cable Sizing.

ExperienceinperformingTransientStabilityStudiesisdesirable.

ExperienceinperformingEarthingStudiesisdesirable.

Demonstrate a deep understanding of the models of main electrical machines,includingbutnotlimitedtogenerators,transformers,motorsandUPS.

ExperienceinbothLVandMVsystems,ideallyHVupto132kV.

StrongknowledgeofpowersystemscontrolandSCADAsystems.

Excellentanalyticalandproblem-solvingskills.

Backgroundinconsultingorconstructionpreferred.
