Job summary

MathWorks has a hybrid work model that enables staff to split time between office and home. The Cambridge-based Simscape Electrical team builds physical modeling libraries and analysis utilities used by engineers worldwide to design power converters.

You will contribute to planning, design reviews, development and testing of power electronics components, working with a multinational team to create parameterized models of semiconductors, gate drivers, magnetics and passive parts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of professional experience, or Master’s with 3+ years, or PhD.
  • Experience with semiconductor devices, gate drivers, and magnetics design.
  • Ability to abstract real circuits into simulation-ready, parameterized models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and verify mathematical models of semiconductor devices, gate drivers, magnetics, and passive components across various fidelity levels.
  • Represent switching/conduction losses and thermal behavior using network representations.
  • Assemble components into predefined power modules and common converter topologies (DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC, resonant, soft-switching).
  • Size converter components to meet design requirements.
  • Create analysis workflows and apps to size components and tune control loops.
  • Validate models against datasheet data and foundry models.
  • Present modeling approaches in design reviews.
