Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop and verify mathematical models of semiconductor devices, gate drivers, magnetics, and passive components across fidelity levels.
  • Represent switching, conduction losses, and thermal behavior using network representations.
  • Assemble components into pre-defined power modules and common converter topologies (DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC).
  • Size converter components according to design requirements.
  • Create analysis workflows and apps to size components and tune control loops.
  • Validate abstracted models against datasheet and foundry models.
  • Present modeling approaches and design proposals in design reviews.

Join the Simscape Electrical team at MathWorks. We build the physical modeling libraries, analysis utilities, and examples that engineers worldwide use to design power converters, from low-power supplies to gigawatt HVDC. Our components include semiconductor, magnetic, and passive device models, and our work spans designing those models so that they can be easily parameterized from real device data, assembling them into converter topologies, and building the workflows that connect circuit-level design to system-level studies. Responsibilities

You will contribute to product planning, design review, development, and testing for the power electronics components in Simscape Electrical. You will work with a multi-national, cross-functional team, taking responsibility for technical work.

  • Develop and verify mathematical models of semiconductor devices, gate drivers, magnetics, and passive components, across a variety of fidelity levels and abstractions.
  • Represent switching and conduction losses, and thermal behavior using Cauer and Foster network representations.
  • Assemble components into pre-defined power modules and examples of common converter topologies, including DC-DC, DC-AC, AC-DC, resonant, and soft-switching.
  • Select and size converter components according to design requirements.
  • Create analysis workflows and apps to help engineers size components, select device ratings, and tune control loops.
  • Validate abstracted models against datasheet data and foundry models.
  • Present modeling approaches and design proposals to colleagues in design reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree and 3 years of professional work experience, or a PhD degree, or equivalent experience) is required.

We are looking for most of the following, gained through industry, research, or applied project work:

  • Semiconductor devices and gate-driver interfaces.
  • Filter and magnetics design, and how each shapes converter behavior.
  • Power converter circuit design, including component sizing and design trade-offs.
  • Abstracting real circuits into simulation-ready, parameterized models.
Plusses

None of the following is required; experience of any would strengthen an application:

  • Hard- and soft-switching techniques, resonant topologies, or switching loss mechanisms.
  • Familiar with power electronic technologies such as wide-bandgap devices (SiC or GaN) and cutting-edge converter topologies.
  • Power factor correction, dual active bridge, or DC-DC converter control.
  • Industrial power electronics applications such as renewables, EV charging, motor drives, energy storage, or aerospace.
  • MATLAB and Simulink for modeling, analysis, or automation.
  • Simscape Electrical, SPICE tools, or other circuit simulation environments.
  • Building documented, reusable components used by a broad engineering community.
