Job summary

The Mackinder Lab at the University of York is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to lead investigations into pyrenoid evolution within the green lineage as part of the BBSRC sLoLa project.

You will date evolutionary events, reconstruct pathways across two algal systems, and collaborate with paleobiologist Katie Davis and consortium partners to integrate analysis with discovery, function, engineering and modelling.

Qualifications

• PhD in biology or related field with hands-on experience in molecular, biochemical and data analysis techniques including phylogenetics.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality research.
• Strong communication and collaboration across departments and institutions.
• Ability to plan research programs and develop leadership in projects and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead role investigating pyrenoid evolution within the green lineage.
• Date pyrenoid evolution events and reconstruct evolutionary pathways across two algal systems.
• Collaborate with consortium partners and integrate evolutionary analysis with discovery, function, engineering and modelling.
• Assist in identifying new research avenues, developing grant proposals, and writing papers for publication.
