Job summary

The Mackinder Lab at the University of York is seeking a motivated lab technician to support projects on CO2 uptake in algae and cyanobacteria. The role involves assisting with robotic platforms for automation of molecular biology and algae screening workflows, algae propagation, cloning, selecting fluorescent lines, confocal imaging, protein purification and data analysis.

You will help maintain a safe lab environment, assist with COSHH risk assessments, handle ordering and distributing goods,

Qualifications

• Ability to manage own time, use initiative and meet deadlines.
• Experience of establishing and running molecular biology workflows.
• Experience of algae and/or plant growth (desirable).
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff & students.

Responsibilities

• Support robotic platforms for automation of molecular biology and algal screening workflows.
• Assist in algal propagation, cloning, and selection of fluorescently labelled lines.
• Conduct confocal imaging and protein purification as part of projects.
• Perform data analysis and maintain organized lab records.
