Job summary

NMS Recruit is seeking an experienced Senior Planner/Planner for a leading Tier 1 contractor operating across the UK and Ireland. You will develop, manage and monitor project programmes from tender through to completion, supporting bid teams and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams across education, healthcare, commercial, residential and public sector projects.

You will hold a relevant degree and demonstrate strong programme controls, risk management and excellent stakeholder

• Advanced proficiency in Asta Powerproject and detailing programmes.
• Strong understanding of risk management and programme controls.

Job description

NMS Recruit are seeking an experienced Senior Planner/Planner for a leading Tier 1 construction and engineering contractor operating across the UK and Ireland. You will make a real impact on high-profile building projects playing a key role in the successful delivery of complex and diverse construction projects across the region. You will work closely with operational teams from tender stage through to project completion and be responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring project programmes, helping to drive successful outcomes whilst supporting continued growth. You will work on a range of exciting projects across sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, residential, and public sector developments.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and manage project programmes from tender stage through to project completion.
• Produce detailed construction programmes, progress reports, and programme updates.
• Monitor project performance against programme objectives and identify potential risks and opportunities.
• Work collaboratively with project teams to develop mitigation measures and recovery plans where required.
• Support bid and pre-construction teams with tender planning and programme development.
• Communicate programme performance clearly and effectively to internal teams, clients, and key stakeholders.
• Provide planning expertise across multiple projects, ensuring best practice and consistency in project controls.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience as a Planner or Senior Planner within the construction industry, ideally delivering complex building projects for a main contractor.
• Advanced proficiency in Asta Powerproject, with the ability to develop, manage, monitor, and report on detailed project programmes.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project sequencing, risk management, and programme controls.
• Experience in the preparation and management of tender, pre-construction, and live contract programmes.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify programme risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present programme information clearly to project teams, clients, and supply chain partners.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the Thames Valley Region as required.

Desirable Experience

• Degree qualified in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or another relevant construction-related discipline.
• Previous experience delivering education, healthcare, commercial, residential, or public sector building projects.
• Knowledge and practical experience of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
• Experience using 4D planning, project visualisation, or digital construction tools.
• Membership of, or working towards membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Experience mentoring, supporting, or developing junior planners within a project team.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice in planning and project controls.
