Job summary

Grant Thornton UK LLP in Birmingham is seeking a Senior Manager for Public Interest (PI) Audit. The role leads audit quality, client relationships and portfolio profitability across PI engagements with UK ISA compliance and firm methodologies.

You will grow the PI practice in the Midlands, manage a multi-grade team, and drive business development while maintaining high professional standards and an inclusive culture.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified chartered accountant (ACA/ACCA/CA/ICAS/ICAEW or international equivalent).
• Experience planning, leading and delivering major external audit engagements in a senior managerial capacity, ideally at portfolio level.
• Experience of formal line management and contributing to business development activity within an audit practice.

Responsibilities

• Owns the design and oversight of audit strategies across PI engagements, ensuring ISAs (UK) and PI requirements.
• Acts as final review point before Engagement Lead and quality reviews, escalating when needed.
• Is the go-to technical reference point for PI matters, owning independence and ethical compliance across the portfolio.
• Leads senior day-to-day relationship holder for Group FCs and Finance Directors; represents the firm independently.
• Leads business development efforts, tender input and growth of the PI practice in Birmingham and the Midlands.
• Owns budget and profitability across the portfolio, including fee negotiations for changes in scope.
• Plans and oversees delivery across multiple PI audit cycles, coordinating specialist input.
