Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and ambitious Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic operational team. The post holder must be eager to learn and develop, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

At Barts Health, we pride ourselves on staff development. Within the Pharmacy department, we offer various training initiatives to meet individual and departmental goals. We are committed to training Pre-registration Pharmacy technicians annually, providing numerous opportunities for career development within pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support a team of pharmacy assistants and trainee pharmacy assistants, delivering patient-focused, quality care at Royal London Hospital.

The role involves moving away from a traditional dispensary model towards a multi-skilled team approach, encompassing both dispensary and medicines management services. The post holder will work on wards to deliver quality care through medicines optimization and support dispensary management on a rotational basis.

Qualifications
  • BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences / NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • Practice Supervisor, Train the Trainer, or equivalent qualification
  • ILM Level 2 or 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
Experience
  • Experience working in hospital or community pharmacy
  • Significant experience as a pharmacy technician
  • Supervisory experience and providing developmental feedback
  • Experience with pharmacy labelling and stock control systems
  • Patient counselling experience
  • Organizing pharmacy services daily
  • Leading team meetings and giving feedback
  • Experience with hospital stock distribution and top-up services
  • Medicines management experience in ward settings
Knowledge
  • Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of ward-level medicines management systems
  • Legislation relevant to pharmacy practice (e.g., controlled drugs, H&S at Work)
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of drugs, side effects, and information sources
  • Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Adherence to SOPs and legislation importance
  • Patient safety initiatives
  • Role development for pharmacy technicians
