Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is advertising a Highly Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join the community team on a 12-month secondment to cover maternity leave.

The post invites an innovator with specialist knowledge in stammering and selective mutism, contributing to the development of pathways within paediatric SLT and providing leadership in service development and training across the children’s workforce.

Qualifications

• Specialist knowledge and experience in paediatric speech and language therapy.
• Experience with stammering and selective mutism.
• Ability to deliver audits and progress reports on new workstreams.

Responsibilities

• Provide highly specialist triage, assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment and discharge recommendations for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
• Assist in service development and innovation in consultation with managers and other team members.
• Provide highly specialist support via clinical supervision, shadowing, mentoring and second opinions for team members.
• Liaise with the Team Lead about service delivery issues and develop plans to manage them.
• Communicate effectively with children, families, other team members and health/education staff.
• Lead on service development, including policies, processes and pathways to improve patient care, in liaison with the Team Lead.
• Demonstrate excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
• Implement, monitor and evaluate new ways of working, including audits/outcomes and progress reports.
• Deliver training to the wider children’s workforce on a range of communication difficulties, developing and evaluating training packages.
