Job description

Job summary

We have an opportunity for a suitably qualified, motivated, and experienced Paediatric Radiographer to join our friendly Imaging team at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, Brighton, located on the same site as the Royal Sussex County Hospital. We are a leading children's centre on the Southeast coast, offering tertiary and general paediatrics across various specialties including surgery, gastroenterology, diabetes, respiratory medicine, oncology, and day care services. The hospital also features a busy 24-hour dedicated children's emergency department, theatre suite, and high dependency unit.

As a Paediatric Radiographer, you will work closely with the Paediatric Radiology team in plain x-ray, theatre, and fluoroscopy. The core service operates from 8:30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, with services outside these hours provided by a team of out-of-hours radiographers supported by specialist training from paediatric radiographers. If you can act as a role model, enjoy teaching and leading others, possess good organizational skills, and can liaise effectively with other departments, you may be the person we need. We offer ongoing support for professional development in a friendly, challenging, and stimulating environment.

Part-time, 15 hours a week, with negotiable days.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide high-quality paediatric imaging using various radiography equipment, including plain film and fluoroscopy.
  2. Arrange further training in MRI after achieving proficiency in other areas and completing competencies with the Superintendent.
  3. Develop skills in fluoroscopy, including equipment preparation, patient and parent/carer communication, and patient positioning for procedures.
  4. Maintain excellent knowledge of paediatric pathology and clinical presentation to ensure appropriate imaging examinations.
  5. Liaise with Paediatric Consultant Radiologists and Advanced Practitioners for clinical input.
  6. Work cohesively within the multidisciplinary team.
  7. Ensure a safe working environment, adhering to all relevant procedures, standards, and legislation.
  8. Comply with IR(ME)R 2017, IRR 2017, MRHA MRI safety guidelines, and Trust policies.
  9. Use hospital software (CRIS, PACS, Bamboo) accurately for patient records.
  10. Understand incident escalation procedures and report incidents via DATIX when appropriate.
  11. Participate in the 24/7 rota, including shifts at both hospitals on the same site.
  12. Communicate effectively with children, young people, families, and colleagues, providing a caring and empathetic service.
  13. Support junior colleagues and radiographers to develop paediatric imaging skills.
