Job description

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, ambitious diagnostic radiographer to join our friendly and forward-thinking Radiology team. This is an ideal opportunity for an HCPC registered radiographer wishing to increase their radiographic experience and expertise in a bustling and team-focused department.

Our internal training and support have long been a draw for candidates, enabling numerous radiographers to develop the necessary skills for career progression and advanced practice.

If you are a radiographer with a passion for patient-centred care, we would like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Undertake all clinical work on rotation through the department under the direction of the lead radiographers, maintaining high clinical standards throughout.
  2. Act as the lead radiographer in the general X-ray area and on-call, effectively coordinating patient throughput whilst supervising the radiographic and student team.
  3. Reduce each patient’s radiation dose during examinations by using collimation and careful positioning.
  4. Take responsibility for actions as described in IR(ME)R and IRR99, keeping up to date with national standards and guidelines.
  5. Observe department DRL and DIL, report excess doses and radiation incidents to the Royal Free Radiation Physics Service and via Datix.
  6. Undertake training to the standard required by the department and accept advice and instruction when necessary.
  7. Seek advice from a modality lead when confronted with new or unusual situations, especially when it may be necessary to refuse a patient’s examination request.
  8. Ensure competency sheets are signed off in a timely manner and maintain competency in all signed-off areas.
  9. Perform complex CT scans independently or during out-of-hours shifts, including IV cannulation of patients and the safe administration of iodinated contrast media.
