Job summary

ERM is seeking an experienced Managing Consultant – Construction Environmental Manager to lead environmental activities during construction of major infrastructure projects. You will act as the on-site environmental lead, coordinating with construction teams, contractors, and regulators to ensure compliance with consent conditions, permits, and CEMPs.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction environmental management within the UK infrastructure sector.
• Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Geography, Ecology, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience leading environmental management during construction of major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory compliance requirements, and environmental management systems.
• Experience implementing Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
• Knowledge of EIA commitments and practical mitigation and monitoring measures.
• Line management or mentoring experience.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and work on project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental compliance and environmental management activities during construction.
• Act as the primary environmental point of contact on-site, coordinating with teams, contractors, and regulators.
• Ensure construction activities comply with consent conditions, permits, licences, and plans.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of CEMPs and related plans.
• Monitor and report on environmental commitments, mitigation measures, and legal obligations.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring to drive continual improvement.
• Lead investigations into incidents, non-conformances, and complaints with corrective actions.
• Maintain compliance records and provide documentation to project leadership and regulators.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring programmes and mitigation/enhancement measures.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, regulators, and specialists on environmental performance.
