Job summary

Arup in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Overhead Line (OHL) Design Engineer to lead design packages across voltage levels from 33kV to 400kV+, delivering feasible, safe, and compliant solutions for major transmission projects such as the Great Grid Partnership.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and apply CAD tools like PLS-CADD to produce drawings with a focus on quality and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or equivalent; Chartered or working towards within 12 months.
• Proven experience in overhead line design for transmission and distribution.
• Experience delivering design within consultancy or major infrastructure settings.
• Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a wider team.

Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies, design reports and technical documentation.
• Deliver and oversee detailed OHL design activities including routing and profiling.
• Produce and review drawings, models and digital design outputs.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
• Support project delivery to programme, budget and quality requirements; mentor juniors.
