Job summary

AECOM in Birmingham, UK invites a Senior OHL Engineer to join the Transmission & Distribution team. You will provide technical leadership on overhead line designs up to 400kV, supporting complex UK projects such as the National Grid partnership.

The role includes feasibility studies, client proposals, and QA of engineering deliverables. You should have a strong background in electrical power engineering, plus Chartered status and experience delivering UK transmission projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
• CEng chartered engineer with a recognised electrical institution.
• Experience delivering UK transmission projects to operator standards.
• Overhead line engineering experience up to 400kV preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support delivering overhead line design on multi-discipline projects.
• Contribute to large programmes like UK National Grid projects.
• Assist in proposals with timelines, resources, budgets, objectives.
• Support project implementation, planning, and public consultations.
• Lead design activities: PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, and sag-tension calculations.
• Assess insulation/conductor selection, damper systems, and clearance reports.
• Support feasibility studies and ensure compliance with standards.
• Identify technically preferred solutions for client presentations.
• Prepare engineering deliverables and conduct internal QA on drawings.
