Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers seeks an experienced Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer based in Glasgow to lead safety cases across major UK defence and nuclear programmes. Occasional travel to client sites is required as part of a focused contract role.

You will provide safety case leadership, develop strategies, and engage with regulators, clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and compliant solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Strong nuclear safety case experience within the defence or nuclear sector.
• Knowledge of UK nuclear regulatory requirements and standards.
• Experience producing high-quality technical safety documentation.
• Proven stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver nuclear safety case strategies.
• Support safety-informed design and engineering decisions.
• Conduct safety assessments and hazard studies (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, HAZAN).
• Produce safety documentation, including PSRs, PCSRS and ALARP assessments.
• Engage with clients, regulators and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support engineering substantiation activities.
• Lead and coordinate safety case work packages and teams.
