Job summary

AGI Group seeks an experienced NPD Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D team in Royston. This role focuses on turning innovation into manufacturable products by optimising DFMA and improving designs to industrialise New Product Introductions (NPI).

You will collaborate with R&D, production, quality, and supply chain to maintain stable, efficient processes for electro-mechanical devices, lead NPI from R&D to Manufacturing, and develop tooling and assembly instructions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years experience as Mechanical Engineer/Design Engineer in electro-mechanical products or similar.
• Background in medical devices, lab instruments, biotech or automation.
• Proven track record of delivering products from concept to manufacturing with focus on DFM/DFA.
• Advanced CAD modelling with SolidWorks; ability to interpret complex drawings.
• Knowledge of Product Life Cycle management and materials/surface treatments.
• Ability to write assembly instructions and technical documentation.
• Lean/Six Sigma exposure and ability to implement improvements.
• Strong presentation skills for stakeholders; travel to suppliers/sites.

Responsibilities

• Turn R&D innovation into a manufacturable product; work with R&D on mechanisms, PCBs, cables, sensors.
• Design product enclosures with EMI/EMC in mind and ensure DFMA.
• Build and test prototypes to validate design and function.
• Improve assembly processes for quality, efficiency, and cost.
• Lead product compliance (CE, EMC, FCC, CSA) and manufacturability standards.
• Develop tooling, jigs, fixtures, and measurement systems.
• Drive NPI industrialisation and create assembly instructions and FAT.
• Lead the NPI process from R&D to Manufacturing; provide training to the factory.
• Visit suppliers and support international travel as needed.
