Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy and maintain enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructures.
  • Configure routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs and load balancers.
  • Monitor performance, plan capacity, troubleshoot complex issues with advanced tools.
  • Implement and enforce network security policies and secure remote access.
  • Lead high-level network projects including upgrades and migrations.
  • Produce and maintain network diagrams, SOPs and documentation.
  • Collaborate with customers and IT teams to ensure project delivery.

Job description

£55ph-£75ph FTC, 12 months with potential extension

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week | 4 day working week Monday to Thursday

About the role

We are looking to recruit for a Senior IT Network Engineer to assist in the delivery of excellent, cost effective IT networks in classified environments

The Network Engineer will engage with 3rd party providers, contracted resources and managed service partners ensuring the secure design, operational stability, documentation, availability and security of all network related infrastructure and services on a day to day basis.

The role requires a working knowledge of a broad set of networking technologies including (but not limited to) LAN/WAN, switching, routing, firewalls, VPN, remote access, network infrastructure, protocols and services, load balancing, and traffic prioritisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise network infrastructures including LAN and WAN
  • Configure and manage advanced network hardware and services: routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers.
  • Monitor network performance, conduct capacity planning, and troubleshoot complex network issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Implement and enforce network security policies, including firewall configurations, access management, and secure remote access protocols.
  • Lead highlevel network projects, including technology upgrades, migrations, and deployment of cutting‑edge networking solutions.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with customers, IT teams, and management to ensure optimal network operations and project delivery.
  • Stay abreast of emerging networking technologies, security paradigms, and industry best practices to recommend improvements.

Desired Skills
  • Appropriate degree from an accredited university or equivalent professional experience/combined education and specialized training commensurate with assignment
  • Indepth understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF), VLANs, VPNs, QoS, and advanced routing strategies.
  • Proven hands on experience in network design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting complex enterprise systems.
  • Expertise in network security, firewall configuration, secure remote access, and incident response.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Strong communication and ability to lead, support and guide a team. Comfortable switching between supporting others’ ideas and taking the lead to drive projects to completion
Experience Requirements
  • Typically 5–10+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering.
  • Experience with SDWAN, VoIP, and advanced routing strategies is highly desirable.
