Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Specialist Senior Mortgage Underwriter to assess and approve standard and complex mortgage applications within delegated authority. You will manage specialist cases, including complex income structures, adverse credit, non-standard properties and EOB scenarios, while mentoring colleagues and contributing to policy development.

Qualifications

• Extensive mortgage underwriting experience focused on credit risk and affordability.
• Experience with complex and specialist residential lending including non-standard income and adverse credit.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (MCOB, Consumer Duty, AML, Financial Crime, Data Protection).
• Ability to assess complex customer circumstances and make clear lending decisions.

Responsibilities

• Assess and approve residential mortgage and further advance applications within delegated authority.
• Manage complex and specialist cases including self-employed, adverse credit and EOB scenarios.
• Review affordability, creditworthiness, and property security to inform decisions.
• Refer cases outside mandate or risk appetite as needed.
• Act as SME for complex underwriting and mentor colleagues.
• Support referral handling, policy development and process improvements.
