Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Specialist Senior Mortgage Underwriter to assess and approve standard and complex mortgage applications within delegated authority, delivering fair, timely and well-reasoned outcomes for customers and brokers.

You will manage a portfolio of specialist cases, including complex income structures, adverse credit and Extraordinary Borrower scenarios, act as a technical expert, mentor colleagues and help drive consistent lending decisions across the

Qualifications

• Extensive mortgage underwriting experience with strong credit risk expertise.
• Experience assessing complex income, adverse credit and non-standard properties.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (MCOB, Consumer Duty, AML, Data Protection).

Responsibilities

• Assess and approve residential mortgage and further advance applications within delegated authority.
• Manage specialist cases including non-standard income and EOB scenarios.
• Review affordability, creditworthiness and security for lending decisions.
• Refer cases outside mandate or risk appetite as needed.
• Support referrals and mentor colleagues on underwriting practices.
• Contribute to underwriting policy and process improvements.
