Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Specialist Senior Mortgage Underwriter to assess and approve standard and complex mortgage applications within delegated authority, delivering fair, timely lending decisions for customers and brokers.

You will manage a portfolio of specialist cases, including non-standard income structures, adverse credit and Extraordinary Borrower scenarios, acting as a technical expert, mentoring colleagues and contributing to policy development.

Qualifications

• Extensive mortgage underwriting experience, including complex cases.
• Experience with adverse credit and non-standard income.
• Strong regulatory knowledge (MCOB, AML, Consumer Duty).
• Ability to mentor peers and influence underwriting policy.

Responsibilities

• Assess and approve residential mortgage applications within delegated authority.
• Manage complex cases including self-employed incomes and extraordinary borrowers.
• Review affordability, creditworthiness, and property security for lending decisions.
• Support referrals, mentor colleagues, and contribute to policy improvements.
