Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Specialist Senior Mortgage Underwriter to assess and approve both standard and complex mortgage applications within delegated authority. You’ll manage specialist cases, mentor colleagues and contribute to policy development to ensure high-quality lending decisions.

You will review affordability, creditworthiness and property security, while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships with brokers and customers and driving responsible lending across

Qualifications

• Extensive mortgage underwriting experience with strong expertise in credit risk, affordability assessment and responsible lending.
• Experience handling complex income structures, adverse credit and non-standard properties.
• Ability to interpret regulation including MCOB, Consumer Duty, AML and data protection.
• Proven track record mentoring colleagues and guiding underwriting decisions.

Responsibilities

• Assess and approve residential mortgage applications within delegated authority.
• Manage complex and specialist cases, including EOB scenarios.
• Refer cases outside mandate or risk appetite as needed.
• Maintain clear decision records and collaborate with brokers and customers.
