Job summary

Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Manager, Machine Learning Science to lead a diverse team of data scientists and ML engineers across locations. You will set strategy, drive end-to-end ML initiatives, and ensure production-ready, scalable solutions for content AI including generation, moderation, and relevance.

Beyond technical excellence, this role requires strong stakeholder management, a focus on measurable outcomes, and the ability to translate business objectives into practical ML

Qualifications

• 4–5+ years of people leadership experience managing ML scientists, data scientists, or multidisciplinary AI/ML teams.
• Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics, mathematics, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
• Significant experience in ML science including supervised/unsupervised learning, model evaluation, generalization, robustness, and experimentation.
• Experience delivering end-to-end ML solutions from problem definition to production integration.
• Experience recruiting, coaching, and career development of data scientists or ML engineers.
• Strong programming skills in Python/Scala/Java and SQL.
• Demonstrated stakeholder management, prioritization, and delivery optimization.
• Engineering mindset with knowledge of software design, modularity, and scalability.
• Familiarity with large language models and willingness to learn across modalities.
• Experience translating business objectives into practical technical approaches.
• PhD preferred; familiarity with LLMOps and GenAI is a plus.
• Experience with recommender systems or reinforcement learning.

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing, inclusive team of data scientists and ML engineers across locations.
• Set team goals, OKRs, priorities, and operating rhythms aligned with strategy.
• Deliver end-to-end ML solutions across content generation, moderation, quality, and relevance.
• Guide development and adoption of scalable ML solutions across textual, video, and image content (potentially speech).
• Develop grounded, non-hallucinating content AI that supports traveler and partner value.
• Apply stakeholder management across Product, Engineering, senior leadership, and cross-functional partners.
• Improve delivery through iterative execution, clear decisions, and measurable outcomes.
• Promote maintainable, modular, scalable, production-aware ML solutions.
• Communicate progress and insights to varied audiences.
• Foster team practices for feedback, knowledge sharing, recruitment, and growth.
