Job summary

OXFIDA seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to turn research into production-grade ML services within CODAS, a privacy-preserving sovereign AI programme partnering with Oxford, UCLA, and international collaborators. You will lead ML engineering and MLOps, designing data pipelines and deployment-ready apps for a multi-partner environment.

You will mentor engineers, translate research into robust systems, and help advance privacy-focused AI capabilities in live deployments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' relevant experience in ML or software engineering.
• Strong Python engineering skills: clean, tested, well-documented code.
• Track record of shipping ML/AI or data-driven systems into production.
• Solid experience with Linux, Docker, version control, CI/CD, and service-oriented deployment.
• Ability to work across the full lifecycle and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Lead the ML engineering and MLOps direction for assigned CODAS workstreams.
• Design, build, test, and maintain ML services, data pipelines, evaluation tooling, and deployment-ready applications.
• Translate research outputs into robust, maintainable systems.
• Adapt AI/ML approaches for privacy-sensitive, security-conscious deployments.
• Improve internal tooling, engineering standards, and reusable frameworks.
• Mentor ML engineers and researchers, communicating trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
