About the Role

Our client, a leading diversified mining group, is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Senior Mining Operations Manager to oversee and lead their operational excellence initiatives. Based in Randburg, Gauteng , this senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of all mining activities across multiple sites. You will drive operational strategy, manage budgets, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and lead a team of experienced mining professionals. The ideal candidate possesses a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership acumen, and a deep understanding of mining operations management. This is a key position with significant responsibility, offering the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the company's success in the competitive mining landscape of Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic operational plans to achieve production, cost, and safety targets.
• Oversee all aspects of mining operations, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
• Manage operational budgets, capital expenditure, and resource allocation effectively.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and community regulations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operational managers, engineers, and supervisors.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and asset utilization.
• Foster a strong safety culture and ensure the implementation of best practices in risk management.
• Collaborate with other departments, including geology, metallurgy, and maintenance, to ensure integrated operations.
• Oversee the selection and implementation of new mining technologies and equipment.
• Report on operational performance, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering or a related field. A postgraduate qualification or MBA is advantageous.
• A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mining operations management, with a proven track record in leading complex operations.
• Extensive experience in both open-pit and underground mining environments.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage large teams.
• Strong understanding of mine planning, scheduling, production, and cost control principles.
• Excellent financial acumen and experience in managing significant operational budgets.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant mining legislation and safety regulations.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven ability to implement change management initiatives successfully.
• Experience working in the Gauteng region is highly preferred.
