Job summary

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist to lead the Microbiology team at York. The role requires strong leadership, management capabilities and hands-on laboratory oversight, including deputising for Chief Biomedical Scientists.

You will work full time and participate in an on-call, early/late, weekend and Bank Holiday roster, providing operational support, ensuring QMS compliance, and leading bench sections and HR processes across the department.

Qualifications

• Qualified Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration.
• Proven leadership and management experience in a microbiology setting.
• Experience deputising for senior leaders and managing HR processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead Microbiology bench sections and teams across the department.
• Provide operational support and deputise for Chief Biomedical Scientists.
• Oversee HR processes and line management within the section.
• Participate in on-call, early/late, weekend and bank holiday rosters.
• Ensure compliance with QMS and external quality assurance standards.
