Job summary

Cobalt Recruitment is guiding a major London development with a Senior MEP Manager / Technical Lead to oversee all MEP disciplines from design through handover. The role is client-side, offering significant technical responsibility and influence over sustainability, procurement and commissioning on a £150m+ mixed-use scheme in Central London.

The successful candidate will lead coordination with consultants, drive value engineering, ensure compliance with UK regulations, and manage design

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years' experience within MEP engineering, building services or technical management.
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CDM, Building Safety Act and relevant industry standards.
• Experience managing external MEP consultants, contractors and specialist design teams.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical review, coordination and optimisation of MEP designs throughout the project lifecycle.
• Act as the client’s technical representative, managing and challenging external consultants, designers and contractors.
• Ensure MEP strategies are technically robust, commercially viable and aligned with the development objectives.
• Review building services designs to identify opportunities for value engineering and improved performance.
• Oversee mechanical, electrical and public health systems, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
• Support the development of sustainable building services strategies including low-carbon heating and energy efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership during procurement of main contractors and MEP packages.
• Review technical scopes, employer's requirements and tender documentation; participate in tender evaluations.
• Manage MEP design development during PCSA stages and challenge design proposals for buildability and cost certainty.
• Oversee testing, commissioning strategies and handover documents (O&M manuals, asset registers).
• Ensure Building Safety Act compliance and related documentation.
