The role

Defence Estate Optimisation is the single biggest estates change programme within Defence, bringing together an ambitious portfolio of interdependent programmes, construction activity, unit and personnel moves. Lendlease has secured a portfolio of projects across the Midlands. The role is to support as a Construction Lead in the planning, programming, scoping, and procuring of the works. Initially working on support across all projects before focusing on one project in delivery.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior MEP Project Manager to be initially based in Birmingham then move to site in Gloucestershire.

What will you do?

  • The M & E Manager will report to the Project Manager /Lead on functional matters and will produce design reviews, method and time-related information required for tenders, management of construction, completion, and post-construction obligations.
  • Will need to be able to understand building services including design principles, construction techniques, commissioning, and handover requirements.
  • Will need to be able to communicate and cooperate with subcontractors.
  • The person will also be required at times to assist other team members with tender submissions and pre-construction activities.
  • Will need to understand health & safety rules and regulations, CDM, and including company policies.
  • Responsible to manage and lead Lendlease Mechanical and Electrical (M & E) team or major trade packages on site.
  • Review design and installation drawings to ensure delivery complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Produce design scope of works as necessary to obtain consultant fee proposals. Produce scope of works for M & E subcontractor tendering.
  • Review all tender submissions to ensure no scope gaps with offers received.
  • Coordination with client’s representatives, design consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Management and implementation of the design required to be installed by subcontractors through the construction phase.
  • Review design, procurement, construction, and commissioning programs.
  • Chair M & E design, construction, and completion meetings as necessary.
  • Chair subcontractors progress meetings and minute such meetings, reporting on site progress, programme, commercial, and technical issues.

You will bring

  • A good understanding of NEC contracting.
  • Preferably qualified with a degree in building services, or mechanical or electrical engineering; relevant HNC or HND qualifications will also be considered.
  • Established skills and traits in managing people to get the best out of them.
  • Leadership.
  • Motivational and proactive.
  • Background in design, construction & delivery process including design management experience with a main contractor on projects above £100m in value.
  • Knowledge of design principles and experience in project delivery.
  • Commercial and financial understanding in the above context – ability to contribute to value engineering as part of the design process.
  • Skill in managing disputes and finding solutions.
  • Minimum experience of approximately 15 years in construction, including a sound knowledge of construction methodology, process, and sequence.
  • Experience of user group interface and stakeholder engagement.
