Main duties of the job

  • Undertake a lead role for children and young people open to the team and work collaboratively with young people, their families and wider care team in the context of their environment.
  • Providing effective assessment, planning and review of care needs.
  • Establishing, maintaining and ending purposeful, therapeutic relationships with children and young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties. Practice will be creative and underpinned by specialist knowledge of, and skills in, evidence based and psychosocial interventions.
  • Using knowledge of psychological therapies, for example CBT, DBT and Solution Focused approaches.
  • Providing time-limited intervention, often during periods of increased need related to crisis or deterioration in mental health in order to provide intensive community support as an alternative to inpatient care.
  • Identifying appropriate discharge goals and working positively with risk using own professional judgment and team processes.

Professional Qualification

  • Must hold a professional qualification (Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing)

Knowledge/Experience

  • Must hold essential knowledge of role and show evidence of experience

Experience of working with complex/risk

  • Understanding of working with children and young people with a wide range of complex mental health needs. (2)
