Senior / Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner

Navigo CAMHS (Young Minds Matter) is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who leads by example to join our core team. We seek someone who can provide a high standard of care to children, young people, families, and carers through therapeutic interventions, care coordination, and supporting the network around the children and family.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join a team of experienced clinicians providing high-standard specialist clinical care to children and young people with complex mental health presentations. Responsibilities include undertaking mental health assessments and delivering safe, effective, evidence-based treatment to children and families. A creative and flexible approach is required to meet individual needs using a trauma-informed approach.

Interventions will be delivered through group and individual therapy, alongside working with and coordinating key adults in the child's and young person's life.

They will also offer liaison, consultation, and training to universal services, including schools, GPs, and health and social care professionals. This includes providing a professional advice line.

Manage delegated caseloads and supervise other staff as required in the provision of direct and indirect care. Deputise for the team lead as needed, based on experience.

Job responsibilities

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality clinical care to children, young people, their families, and carers, including:

• Providing advice, support, and guidance on mental health via the advice line.
• Participating in triage, screening, and assessment of referrals for appropriateness and onward signposting/referral.
• Providing full assessments and follow-up care through care planning and clinical pathways, including managing risks and care planning accordingly.
• Delivering therapeutic interventions within relevant care pathways, including eating disorders.
• Working with family and carer networks to meet the child's needs.
• Collaborating with other agencies and promoting effective working relationships.
• Participating in planning, delivery, and evaluation of group interventions.
• Offering support, advice, consultation, and training to partner agencies.
• Adhering to relevant legislation and standards, engaging with safeguarding and assessment processes.
• Maintaining accurate records and providing a non-stigmatising, professional service.
• Supporting effective transitions and ensuring best practice by incorporating NICE guidance and meeting healthcare standards.

Person Specification

Knowledge

• Expertise in Child Care legislation, Safeguarding, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
• Knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and Information Governance principles.
• Understanding of local and national strategies concerning CAMHS and mental health.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma, and trauma-informed approaches.

Qualifications

• Registered with a professional body (e.g., NMC, UKCP, HCPC, BACP).
• Recognised professional qualification in nursing (RNMH, RNLD), social work, occupational therapy, or related fields with CAMHS experience.
• Additional therapeutic qualifications (CBT, DBT, IPT, EMDR, etc.) and evidence of ongoing professional development.

Experience

• Post-registration experience working with mental health needs, including severe and enduring mental ill health.
• Experience with evidence-based practice, building therapeutic relationships, and working in multidisciplinary settings.
• Experience in assessment, formulation, management, and therapy delivery to children and young people.
• Experience managing and developing staff, including supervision.

Salary: £29,970 to £44,962 per year, Band 5 or Band 6 depending on experience.
