Senior / Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner

Do you have a passion for improving the lives of children, young people, and their families? Are you a qualified professional with experience working with children, young people, and their families to enhance their mental health?

Navigo CAMHS (Young Minds Matter) is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who leads by example to join our core team. We are looking for someone who can provide a high standard of care to children, young people, families, and carers through therapeutic interventions, care coordination, and support for the network around the children and families.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join a team of experienced clinicians providing high-quality specialist clinical care to children and young people with complex mental health presentations. Responsibilities include mental health assessments, delivering safe and effective evidence-based treatments, and using a trauma-informed approach to meet individual needs.

Interventions will include group and individual therapy, working with and coordinating with key adults in the lives of children and young people. The role also involves liaising, consulting, and training universal services such as schools, GPs, and other health and social care professionals, including providing a professional advice line. Managing delegated caseloads and supervising staff as required, with opportunities to deputise for the team lead.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide high-standard clinical care as part of a multidisciplinary team, including advice, support, and guidance on mental health issues via the advice line.
  • Participate in triage, screening, and assessment of referrals, with appropriate signposting and onward referral.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop care plans, including managing risks and delivering individual and group interventions.
  • Work with family and carer networks to meet the child's needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with other agencies and participate in group interventions, training, and policy development.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, safeguarding policies, and record-keeping standards.
  • Deliver a non-stigmatising, professional service, supporting smooth transitions between services.
  • Incorporate NICE guidelines and healthcare standards, using outcome measures to evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Lead clinical and non-clinical meetings, contribute to service development, and participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Manage caseloads to meet service targets, participate in clinical governance, and supervise junior staff.
Person Specification
Knowledge
  • Expertise in Child Care legislation, Safeguarding, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Knowledge of clinical risk assessment and information governance.
  • Awareness of local and national strategies related to CAMHS and mental health.
  • Understanding of child development, trauma, and trauma-informed care approaches.
Qualifications
  • Registered with a professional body such as NMC, UKCP, HCPC, or BACP.
  • Recognised professional qualification in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or related fields, with evidence of specialized training.
  • Additional therapeutic qualifications (e.g., CBT, DBT, EMDR) and mentorship or supervision training.
Experience
  • Post-registration experience working with individuals with mental health needs, especially severe and enduring conditions.
  • Experience in evidence-based practice, therapeutic relationships, multidisciplinary work, assessment, and therapy delivery.
  • Experience in staff management and supervision.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to collaborate with universal services and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, motivation, and engagement abilities.
  • Capability to meet service targets, delegate appropriately, and manage own and colleagues' anxieties.

Salary: £29,970 to £44,962 per year, Band 5 or Band 6 depending on experience.
