Job summary

IonQ's Oxford site, part of IonQ, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Reliability Engineering team to keep quantum computer fleets running at peak uptime and reduce operating costs.

You will collaborate with electrical, optical and science colleagues to update mechanical designs, manage configuration, and implement improvements across live systems, ensuring changes propagate through PLM and ECR processes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of mechanical engineering with a strong design background.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with cryogenic, vacuum, or optomechanical systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Root-cause mechanical, vacuum, cryogenic and thermal faults on live fleets.
• Prioritise issues by uptime impact and analyse failed parts.
• Design, prototype and test solutions for recurring challenges.
• Write assembly and upgrade instructions and implement upgrades in live systems.
• Maintain PLM records, build records and ECRs for traceability.
