Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in Oxford is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own mechanical design from requirements to manufacture and integration.

You will work on hardware surrounding the quantum processor, including cryostat and cooling equipment, vacuum chambers and structures. You will collaborate with scientists and engineers to deliver robust assemblies, manage documentation in the PLM system, and ensure designs are manufacturable.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong CAD capability, preferably SolidWorks, focused on assemblies.
• Experience with cryogenic or vacuum systems and complex multidisciplinary systems.

Responsibilities

• Mechanically integrate multiple subsystems into a single system layout.
• Produce 3D designs and detailed 2D drawings with BOMs.
• Design systems for vacuum, gas handling and coolant management.
• Plan routing of cables and optical fiber across the system.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers; support lab technicians.
