Job summary

Ethos, a multidisciplinary consultancy, seeks a Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to lead retrofit MEP upgrades in live data centre environments across EMEA. You will design and deliver cooling, power, and fire/safety improvements while coordinating with hyperscale clients, contractors and internal teams to ensure zero operational disruption.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years in building services with at least 3 years in data centre or mission‑critical projects.
• Experience in live data centre environments including brownfield upgrades and phased refurbishments.
• Chartered Engineer status or actively working toward Chartership.
• Proven track record managing multi‑million‑euro MEP projects from concept to completion.
• Strong knowledge of Irish and EU building regulations; LEED/BREEAM and EU Energy Efficiency Directive is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services upgrades within live data centre environments.
• Develop retrofit design strategies including tie‑ins to live systems, outages, and resilience planning.
• Conduct technical due diligence of existing facilities including capacity unlock assessments.
• Prepare and review detailed design drawings, schematics, schedules, and reports.
• Manage project scope, budget, programme, and contracts; mitigate risks and live‑environment constraints.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and vendors to achieve goals with zero disruption.
• Drive quality assurance and governance across projects in live environments.
• Mentor and support junior engineers and graduates.
• Support business development with proposals and client presentations.
• Champion innovation in retrofit delivery and continuous improvement.
• Lead phasing strategy for live cooling and HVAC upgrades.
