Job summary

AtkinsRéalis’ Engineering and Design Practice seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of building services across diverse sectors. You will act as Technical Lead, driving innovative, low-carbon solutions while mentoring engineers and interfacing with clients and project teams.

The role offers opportunities to influence technical direction, support growth, and contribute to decarbonisation strategies within a globally connected practice.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a recognised institution.
• Significant experience delivering mechanical building services in a consultancy.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and industry standards.
• Experience in client-facing roles and stakeholder management.
• Ability to review and direct production of technical deliverables.
• Experience undertaking design calculations with industry-standard software.
• Excellent communication, presentation and report-writing skills.
• Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and delivery of building services from concept to handover.
• Act as Technical Lead and Design Authority on projects.
• Develop sustainable, energy-efficient engineering solutions.
• Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams.
• Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Lead technical discussions and client meetings.
• Prepare and review calculations, reports, specifications and drawings.
• Coordinate BIM models using Revit and other tools.
• Support project managers on delivery, budgets and risks.
• Contribute to bids, proposals and client presentations.
• Mentor engineers, graduates and apprentices.
• Pursue continuous improvement and sustainability goals.
