Job summary

AtkinsRéalis' Engineering and Design Practice is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead building services design across healthcare, defence, education, commercial, energy and public sector projects.

You will act as Technical Lead, oversee multidisciplinary teams, develop innovative energy-efficient solutions and coordinate BIM using Revit. This role offers leadership, mentorship and the chance to shape technical direction.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent.
• Experience delivering mechanical building services in a consultancy.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects.
• Strong understanding of UK building regulations and standards.
• Client-facing experience and stakeholder management.
• Ability to review and direct production of technical deliverables.
• Experience in design calculations and using industry software.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design from concept through to handover.
• Act as Technical Lead and Design Authority on projects.
• Develop energy-efficient, sustainable engineering solutions.
• Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and contractors.
• Lead technical discussions in client meetings and design reviews.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, reports and specs.
• Coordinate BIM models and design information using Revit.
• Support project managers with delivery, budgets and risks.
• Contribute to bids, proposals and client presentations.
• Mentor engineers, graduates and apprentices.
