Job summary

Sweco is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Leeds design team. The role offers hybrid working with a minimum of three days in the office and scope to influence water and wastewater projects across the UK.

You will lead multidisciplinary collaboration, advance sustainable designs, and mentor junior engineers while delivering high-quality outputs for AMP8 frameworks and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status with IMechE.
• Extensive knowledge and experience of mechanical design for the water industry.
• Ability to work with engineers from all disciplines to optimise and develop bespoke designs.
• Experience delivering water designs for Water Companies, Contractors and industry.
• Understanding environmental, water/wastewater processes and health & safety legislation.

Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility, optioneering, outline and detailed mechanical design packages for water and wastewater projects.
• Produce and check mechanical design deliverables including P&IDs, calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, procurement documentation and reports.
• Take responsibility for technical quality and coordination of mechanical design outputs.
• Act as discipline lead on projects and coordinate with process, civil, and electrical teams.
• Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, hazard studies and ALMs.
• Lead identification, assessment and management of design risks and ensure CDM compliance.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, commissioning and handover phases.
• Review contractor and supplier submissions and respond to technical queries.
• Develop relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Provide guidance, mentoring and development support to junior engineers.
• Support business development, bid preparation and work-winning initiatives.
• Ensure design outputs are delivered per scope, programme, budget and quality.
