Job summary

NUVIA UK in Glasgow is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a hybrid team delivering critical safety‑regulated projects across the nuclear, defence and energy sectors. You will support ongoing operations and future programmes, ensuring safe delivery of engineering services across regulated facilities.

You will author substantiation documentation, manage design changes, and present to governance bodies, while aligning with industry standards and lifecycle requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical engineering for industrial plant, equipment and machinery including pumps, generators and related systems.
• Knowledge of current design standards, codes and practices including British and European Standards.
• Experience across the full project lifecycle from concept to operation and support.
• Experience assessing mechanical plant design, performance and suitability in safety-critical environments.
• Proven ability to produce robust technical justifications and documentation for design modifications.
• Experience working on multidisciplinary projects providing mechanical input.
• Experience with lifting equipment such as overhead cranes and other handling systems.

Responsibilities

• Author, develop and manage engineering design substantiation documentation for infrastructure, facilities and assets in a regulated environment.
• Prepare, evaluate and manage engineering design changes, modifications and concessions.
• Present technical submissions to governance, assurance and safety review panels.
• Develop and maintain EIMT schedules, operating procedures and evidence for compliance across asset lifecycle.
• Produce and assess periodic safety reviews and related engineering assurance documentation.
• Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop scopes of work for Independent Technical Assessments and Independent Peer Reviews.
• Apply engineering knowledge to support implementation of existing and emerging technologies.
• Apply engineering principles to the design, development, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, modification and decommissioning of systems in regulated environments.
• Produce robust technical justifications to support modifications and approvals.
• Review and assess technical reports, studies and safety submissions.
