Job summary

Rivan Industries in London is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own an electrolyser sub-system from early physics through detailed design, build and commissioning. You will drive concept generation, system architecture, and technical requirements while coordinating with process, electrical and controls engineers to deliver a complete, manufacturable system.

You will work hands-on in the workshop, iterate on stack structures, design test rigs, and liaise with external vendors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional experience.
• Bachelor’s or Masters in mechanical/aero or related field.
• Hands-on workshop fabrication and build experience.
• Fundamental thermofluids understanding, including pressure loss, heat and mass transfer, and two-phase flow.
• Simulation/analytical modelling using Python/FEA/CFD.
• Test setup design, running experiments and data analysis.
• Alkaline water electrolysis or related electrochemical processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and manufacture of an electrolyser sub-system from physics to factory rollout.
• Design and iterate electrolyser stack structures and sub-system balance of plant.
• Design test-rigs to validate hypotheses quickly and cheaply.
• Solve complex fluid and thermal problems including two-phase gas-liquid flow.
• Own and iterate detailed design drawings with fabrication workshop.
• Collaborate with process, electrical and controls engineers to integrate the full system.
• Liaise with external vendors to support development and production.

We’re looking for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to own one of our electrolyser sub-systems to drive that forward, tasked with uncovering new ways of thinking about our system integration, performance, longevity, and manufacturability. The role

Own the design and manufacture of an entire Rivan sub-system, from physics and chemistry, to rolling out of the factory door.

Own mechanical design of an electrolyser sub-system, from early stage physics and chemistry, through detailed design, build and commissioning. We need you to:

• Own the concept generation, system architecture, and technical requirements capture
• Design and iterate electrolyser stack structures and sub-system balance of plant.
• Design test-rigs to validate underlying hypotheses quickly and cheaply
• Solve complex fluid and thermal problems, including two-phase gas-liquid flow
• Own and iterate detailed design drawings with our fabrication workshop
• Work closely with process, electrical and controls engineers to integrate the complete system
• Liaise with external vendors to support our development and production

Core skills

• 5+ years professional experience
• Bachelor’s or Masters in mechanical/aero or related field
• System design experience including CAD (SolidWorks), design for manufacture/assembly, part specification and procurement of complex, integrated systems involving moving fluids
• Hands on workshop fabrication and build experience
• Fundamental thermofluids understanding, including pressure loss, heat and mass transfer, and two-phase flow
• Simulation/analytical modelling competency (e.g. python, FEA, CFD)
• Test setup design, running of experiments, and data analysis
• Alkaline water electrolysis or other electrochemical processes

Specifics

• £70 - 90k Salary depending on experience
