Job summary

Rivan Industries in London is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own a DAC subsystem, driving design through testing and integration. You will design parts in SOLIDWORKS, build and test hardware, and work with a small, fast-moving team to deliver reliable equipment.

The role emphasizes hands-on work, documentation, and close collaboration with senior engineers, with relocation support and in-person work at our Bermondsey HQ. Unlimited time-off and private health insurance are included.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years professional engineering experience.
• Proven record of designing, building and testing hardware.
• Competent CAD capability, ideally SOLIDWORKS.
• Understanding of good CAD assembly structure and top-down layouts.
• Genuinely hands-on and comfortable in a workshop environment.
• Organised in recording designs, test conditions and results.

Responsibilities

• Own defined mechanical design workstreams from concept through detailed design and testing.
• Design parts and assemblies in SOLIDWORKS within top-down structures.
• Produce and iterate manufacturing drawings with the workshop.
• Build, modify and troubleshoot prototypes and test rigs hands-on.
• Run mechanical and reliability testing and document results clearly.
• Support assembly, integration and commissioning of DAC equipment.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to improve designs and validate assumptions.

Rivan Industries is a synthetic fuel company decarbonising heavy industry. We’re making synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels, sustaining life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

Engineering at Rivan is about taking technologies that are conventionally treated as low volume, bespoke, and expensive, and rethinking them completely to be mass manufactured, standardised, and ultra low cost. We’re looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to own one of our sub-systems to drive that forward, tasked with uncovering new ways of thinking about our system integration, performance, longevity, and manufacturability. The role

Design, build and test DAC hardware.

We practice our culture, everyone at Rivan has direct ownership of part of our DAC system, regardless of seniority. We operate with minimal process and bureaucracy, only what is essential to ensure our systems are safe, legally compliant, and deployed on time, everything else is up to you. We expect you to:

• Take ownership of defined mechanical design workstreams, from concept through detailed design, build and testing
• Design parts and assemblies in SOLIDWORKS, working within our top-down/layout-driven assembly structures
• Produce and iterate manufacturing drawings with our fabrication workshop
• Build, modify and troubleshoot prototypes and test rigs hands-on
• Run mechanical and reliability testing, recording test conditions, results and observations clearly so others can use the data
• Support assembly, integration and commissioning of DAC equipment
• Work alongside senior engineers to understand failure modes, improve designs and validate engineering assumptions

Core skills

• 1-2+ years professional engineering experience
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in mechanical/aero or related field
• Evidence of having designed, built and made physical hardware work through personal projects, competition teams, placements or professional experience
• Competent CAD capability, ideally SOLIDWORKS
• Understanding of good CAD assembly structure and ability to work within top-down/layout-driven assemblies
• Genuinely hands-on and comfortable spending significant time building, modifying and testing hardware in a workshop
• Organised and disciplined in recording designs, test conditions, results and engineering changes

Additional skills

• Fundamental thermofluids understanding, including pressure loss, heat and mass transfer
• Simulation/analytical modelling competency (e.g. python, FEA, CFD)
• Test setup design, running of experiments, and data analysis

• £40 - 50k Salary depending on experience
