Job summary

Gold Group in Salisbury is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own challenging hardware design tasks from concept through to manufacture and verification. You will lead technical problem-solving, guide other engineers, coordinate design reviews and ensure solutions meet customer requirements, safety standards and commercial constraints.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in mechanical design of complex hardware.
• Strong 3D CAD modelling and detailed drawings.
• Deep understanding of tolerancing, fits and dimensional standards.
• Experience taking designs from concept through manufacture and verification.
• Knowledge of materials selection, coatings, corrosion and manufacturing processes.
• Experience in regulated or safety-critical environments.
• Familiarity with design for manufacture (DFM) and design verification.
• Experience leading design reviews and multidisciplinary problem-solving.
• Ability to balance technical performance with safety, cost and delivery.
• Excellent communication to justify engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead concept development, design and delivery of complex mechanical hardware.
• Guide engineers, challenge design approaches and drive problem-solving.
• Coordinate and chair design reviews with customers and stakeholders.
• Ensure designs are suitable for manufacture with proper materials, tolerances and production methods.
• Define verification requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Support hazard analysis, safety cases and regulatory compliance.
• Identify technical and commercial risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues.
• Seek continuous improvement to optimize design processes and value.
