Job summary

MWH Treatment Limited is seeking a Senior CAD Technician (Mechanical) to join our Southern Division and help deliver major water and wastewater projects across the UK. The role focuses on coordinating mechanical CAD and BIM activities, producing high-quality drawings and models, and ensuring delivery to programme and quality standards.

You will work with Civil, Electrical, ICA and Process engineers, champion digital delivery practices and mentor junior CAD staff while coordinating offshore

Qualifications

• Significant experience in a multidisciplinary engineering design environment.
• Strong Mechanical CAD background in water, utilities, industrial processing or infrastructure projects.
• Advanced 2D drafting skills with industry-standard CAD software.
• Strong 3D modelling capability and understanding of model-based design principles.
• Proven experience using Autodesk Revit and associated 3D design applications.
• Experience using Bentley ProjectWise or similar document management platforms.
• Understanding of mechanical engineering systems, including pumping systems, pipework, valves, treatment equipment and associated infrastructure.
• Broad experience in the use and application of engineering software and digital delivery tools.
• Good understanding of BIM standards, 3D modelling processes and QA requirements.
• Strong appreciation of how mechanical systems are installed, operated and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Lead the production, coordination and quality assurance of mechanical design drawings and 3D models.
• Manage CAD workloads and ensure design outputs are delivered to programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Act as a Digital Delivery Champion, supporting the adoption of BIM and digital engineering best practice across the business.
• Coordinate drawing production undertaken by offshore and remote design resources.
• Ensure all designs comply with CDM Regulations, project specifications and company procedures.
• Coordinate mechanical design outputs with Civil, Electrical, ICA and Process disciplines.
• Support the identification and resolution of technical queries and design coordination issues.
• Produce and review high-quality mechanical layouts, equipment arrangements, pipework designs and detailed engineering drawings.
• Ensure compliance with drawing standards, QA procedures and document control requirements.
• Work closely with construction teams and supply chain partners to improve buildability and deliver practical engineering solutions.
• Support BIM delivery and model coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
• Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and support junior CAD technicians and designers where required.
