Job summary

Salt is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator to join our specialist security team on a UK critical national infrastructure programme. You will administer, optimise and secure Linux server environments, manage VMware vSphere/ESXi, and drive automation with Ansible in a DevOps-like workflow.

Qualifications

• Strong Linux administration experience with RHEL, Rocky Linux or similar.
• VMware vSphere/ESXi administration experience.
• Experience with Ansible or equivalent infrastructure automation tools.
• Strong Bash/shell scripting skills.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux environments, including networking, storage and permissions.
• Experience with CI/CD environments and methodologies.
• IT infrastructure and security experience.
• Active and valid Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
• UK resident status.
• Experience supporting large-scale or complex infrastructure environments is desirable.
• Experience working within DevOps environments is desirable.
• Windows Server knowledge is desirable.
• Experience supporting secure or highly regulated environments is desirable.
• Exposure to big data, cybersecurity or data science platforms is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and optimise Linux server environments across production and development platforms.
• Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi infrastructure, including virtual machines, resource allocation and host configuration.
• Develop and maintain automation using Ansible or equivalent tools to streamline deployments, configuration and routine tasks.
• Develop and maintain Bash and shell scripts.
• Troubleshoot complex Linux, networking, storage, permissions and performance issues.
• Support secure IT infrastructure and CI/CD environments.
• Support interoperability with Windows Server environments where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvements across a highly secure big data platform.
