Job summary

Synapri is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to lead our Linux engineering across a complex IT infrastructure. You will work as a senior technical resource, influencing engineering decisions and driving upgrades across Linux tooling.

The role requires hands-on experience with VMware/Hyper-V, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and scripting in Bash/Python. You will participate in Agile/DevOps practices and support on-prem and cloud environments.

Location: Glasgow or London (hybrid working)

Duration: 6-12 months

Vetting: SC security clearance will be required, possible DV

Skills and Experience

• Experience in a similar Senior Engineer role in Linux Engineering in a complex IT Infrastructure.
• Acting as a senior technical Linux resource across the engineering function.
• Experience with virtualized networking principles and platforms (VMware/Hyper-V).
• Experience with containers, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Advanced experience with Bash and Python
• Good understanding of common services, applications and protocols, for example HTTPS, SSH, DNS, NTP and SSL.Good understanding of common services, applications and protocols, for example HTTPS, SSH, DNS, NTP and SSL.
• Experience with open-source Ansible automation tooling.
• Good understanding of troubleshooting Linux issues to 4th line.
• Demonstratable experience of Agile / DevOps working practices.
• Experience of systems monitoring infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of Confluence, Jira and JSM.
• Sound understanding of database technologies, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, SQL.
• Manage Linux certificates across the environment.
• Good experience of squid.
• Responsible for driving all system upgrades across Linux tooling.
• Good understanding across IT On-Prem and Cloud based infrastructure.

Desirable

• You will have relevant Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security or Systems Engineering qualification, or equivalent related qualifications or experience.
• Experience working in a Cloud Infrastructure Environment; AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Experience with managing CEPH Storage or Linux storage environments.

Supplementary Information

• May involve occasional out of hours work for maintenance or incident response.
• Occasional travel between sites depending on the organisation.
