Job summary

Salt Digital Recruitment is seeking a DV-cleared Senior Linux System Administrator to join a security-focused team supporting a large-scale UK national infrastructure big data platform. The role emphasizes on-site delivery with strict DV clearance requirements and cross-team collaboration on DevOps CI/CD efforts.

The candidate will manage Linux environments, VMware ESXi, and automation via Ansible, while ensuring robust security and performance across production and development platforms.

Qualifications

• Strong Linux administration experience with RHEL or Rocky Linux.
• Experience managing VMware vSphere/ESXi environments.
• Proficient in Ansible automation and Bash scripting.
• Solid troubleshooting across Linux, networks, storage and permissions.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and security requirements.
• Familiarity with Windows Server interoperability where needed.
• Background in secure, large-scale infrastructure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and optimise Linux server environments across production and development platforms.

Applicants must hold active and valid Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance to be considered for this opportunity. Unfortunately, applications from candidates without current DV clearance cannot be progressed. An opportunity is available for a DV Cleared Senior Linux System Administrator to join a specialist security team supporting a secure, large-scale big data platform for a UK critical national infrastructure programme. The platform supports a suite of cutting-edge cybersecurity and data science tools, with the team using DevOps methodologies to deliver continuous improvements in response to evolving security requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and optimise Linux server environments across production and development platforms
• Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi infrastructure, including virtual machines, resource allocation and host configuration
• Develop and maintain automation using Ansible or equivalent tools to streamline deployments, configuration and routine tasks
• Develop and maintain Bash and shell scripts
• Troubleshoot complex Linux, networking, storage, permissions and performance issues
• Support secure IT infrastructure and CI/CD environments
• Support interoperability with Windows Server environments where required
• Contribute to continuous improvements across a highly secure big data platform

Essential Skills
