Job summary

WSP is seeking a Principal Lighting Engineer to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team in the UK. You will lead multi‑disciplinary projects, coordinate detailed lighting layouts, and ensure designs meet QA standards and client requirements.

You will develop feasibility studies, option reports and project proposals, manage delivery against milestones and budget, and foster relationships with Local Authority and SRN clients while mentoring junior team members.

Qualifications

• Experience leading projects and teams in lighting design.
• Strong knowledge of external lighting standards and regulations.
• Experience in lighting maintenance and asset management.
• Demonstrated ability to design from concept to construction with Lighting Reality/Dialux and AutoCAD.
• Risk awareness for CDM and financial impacts with mitigation options.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and plan effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational, analytical and communication skills.
• Coaching and developing junior team members.
• Experience in Local Government or SRN sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and teams, with a focus on delivery and quality.
• Coordinate detailed design layouts and engineering drawings per QA and client requirements.
• Prepare feasibility reports, option studies and technical notes.
• Oversee proposal development and progress against milestones and budget.
• Engage with Local Authority and SRN clients to build relationships.
• Analyse client briefs and provide expert lighting guidance.
• Develop and support delivery team members, including early career professionals.
• Represent WSP within the lighting industry and drive business development.
